Captain Marvel: Review

So I just walked out of Captain Marvel and I’m sitting in a Waffle House gathering my thoughts. First, a semi spoiler. The traditional comic book open has been changed for this movie and it will make you smile both on the inside and out. With that being said, don’t expect a title card to appear with this movie for that reason. I won’t spoil it but once that heroic music starts and that montage starts flipping, pay attention. A friend of mine and I were clapping.

I want to start my addressing some things you may, or may not, have read about this film. Yes, this is about a powerful woman so it is sort of a women’s empowerment movie but it’s not forced on you. I can recall maybe once or twice where it is apparent that they want you to know that she is a single woman doing this. I’ve seen some things where it says that this concept is best across your head throughout the movie. I didn’t get that but I’m not everyone.

I also would like to state that this movie didn’t really explain why we need Captain Marvel. I get it, she’s strong. She has this photon power that seems to make her super strong and she can fly and whatnot but can’t Thor and Ironman do that? Do we just need a woman that is equal in strength to them? I’m still working on that part.

Another thing I will spoil. All.the things you saw in the trailer will be seen in the first 20 minutes of the movie. It’s almost like someone finished the first half of the movie and made the trailer right after that.

Be ready for some nostalgia, 90’s babies. There will be some new babies that will have no idea about dial-up or what something having to load is or what it even means. Look around when those parts come across your local theater screen. Not everyone will be laughing and that’s an additional joke.

Maria, Captain Marvel’a friend when she was in the Air Force and when she remembered she was Carol Danvers, is in the movie much longer than I expected. I didn’t see her much in the trailer

Another thing I will spoil is the Skrull shapeshifting. If you pay attention, you can catch if the person is a Skrull. That’s the only downside to me but they try really hard to establish the Skrull as exception shapeshifters. They don’t just take the form of whoever they see, there’s much more to it that establishes them as a real threat to the human race or other space races but every time the Skrull shifted, I caught it. You may not but I did.

Here’s what I will tell you because I don’t wanna spoil anything for y’all.

  • We will finally find out who the last person Nick Fury trusted that cause him to lose an eye.
  • You will find out what happened to Carol Danvers
  • You will find out who Jude Law’s character is, because they kept that hush hush.
  • You’ll find out about the Kree and Skrull war.
  • You’ll also find out about her new suit
  • And last but not least, you will find out if she will be in Endgame.

Captain Marvel is out now and it is fantastic! Great MCU fan movie, date night movie and great action movie.
