Before I start my rant, I want to start by saying that Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie. It was when I was growing up and it still is today (fight me!). When they told me that there would be a new Aladdin AND that Will Smith would be the genie, I was ecstatic…and then I saw the teaser trailer (Disney, you could have kept that trailer, by the way. Don’t give me teaser anything. I hate teasers.)
So, the teaser gave me nothing and I was more confused. I was more confused at why Disney would spend so much money on such a short amount of content that was basically nothing. I’m glad these people have that kind of money to spend.
Fast forward to tonight as I sat with my coworkers and watched the Grammys. I see this new longer trailer (that still gave me nothing) where we get a glimpse of the genie and that’s when I said to myself, “You have to talk about it and get it out.”. And here I am…about to bash this remix of my favorite Disney classic. Here goes.
There is nothing, but maybe Will Smith as genie, that I enjoy about this film and to make matters worse, we got to hear Jafar and his voice was ALL WRONG. I get it, DIsney. Let’s make a new movie for the new generation of kids (instead of them watching the 1992 original animated version). The only good thing I can say about this movie is that in the trailer there is one scene of the street and it looks lively and colorful.
Jasmine is wrong, Jafar is wrong, Aladdn is wrong (and there is SO MUCH wrong with that) and the genie has the attitude and playfulness but the graphics…LAWD! When we were little (at least for me), Aladdin as an animated main was FOINE!!! I wanted to date Aladdin. I don’t want to date the dude that plays Aladdin (I’m so disappointed, I don’t even want to look up his man). The actress who plays Jasmine isn’t horrible but she ain’t it either. Jafar’s voice is too high and he doesn’t sound like he can manipulate or scare ANYONE!
Let’s talk about these genie graphics.
ABSOLUTELY NOT, DISNEY! ABSOLUTELY NOT! This looks like the graphics team spent so much time making a genie that they forgot he was actually a person and that he needed to have Will’s face that they added it last minute and was like, “Here you go”. Unacceptable!

And not the title image I put for this post. I don’t think I’m going to see this out of sheer disappointment. Y’all do what you want but not for me, folks and if you are a 90’s kid and you see it, I’m sure you’ll be confused as well.
