Review: “Thunderbolts*”

Marvel, I am upset that you made me wonder about this asterisk and it’s just to tell us that these are the “New Avengers,” but Valentina has no real power, like we saw with John Walker, to really call them that. Sam doesn’t either but we’ll get to that in another post. And, honestly, I like the Thunderbolts better. As a self-proclaimed MCU girl who always goes on opening weekend to see the Marvel films, please just name them the Thunderbolts.

Any who…this movie was great and I don’t even want to hear you moan about it. You got action. You got feelings. You got laughs. It was “Inside Out,” but with grown people and guns. I was almost about to cry at a couple of scenes in this film.

Let me get a few firsts off. Recent Golden Globe winner Sebastian Stan looked HOT on that motorcycle in the desert. One thing Marvel will do is create a superhero moment that looks sick and they did! I love a Brown or Black man but due Jesus he was fine in that scene. Black leather, sunglasses, and a mechanical arm, ladies and gentlemen. Lewis Pullam, the son of the man who I will always regard as my President from one of my favorite movies, was phenomenal. He looked so much like his dad when we got to see him in the Sentry suit. I love when an actor can nail the switch in their character. The complexity of this character needed that and it takes a special person who can switch like that and the audience can sense that switch. It helps us transition with that character. Michael B. Jordan did something similar, in a way, in “Sinners.” (We WILL get to that movie. Don’t worry.) Also, no Valentina, we did not enjoy the blonde.

Hey, Marvel, you could have AT LEAST let Taskmaster last until like the middle of the film. I mean, geez. I think she said like 3 lines. Now, do I remember her as the villain in “Black Widow?” No, no I don’t but still. I don’t think the people got time to even register who she was and where they know her from. I imagine a lot of us forgot but still Marvel. If we were going to do all that, might as well have just had the three to begin with.

My theory about Bucky being the Nick Fury to these Dark Avengers (I guess I got two things wrong, but the second is due to Evan from “New Rockstars.”) was wrong, but I don’t like the idea that Valentina is their Nick Fury. Love Julia Louis-Dreyfus, hate Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. And who told her to buy Avengers tower? And, no, I don’t want to call it “The Watchtower.”

But back to the movie. We’ve got a host of things to consider after watching this film.

1.) Marvel is famous for introducing something and then nixing it. While you watch, you think, “You know, maybe if Bob can control this, he can help with Doom.” Then you realize that in order for him to be that powerful, he has to stay in that destructive, dark place. We don’t want that for Bob. Also, do I sense a budding romance between him and Yelena. Yelena has jump over a couple of hurdles recently. She mourned the loss of her sister and did away with finding revenge. She’s found a new purpose, family, and new friends. I think it’s time for her to love someone and someone to love her and her and Bob seemed cute together in a clumsy way.

2.) What is Sam upset about? Is it that John Walker is apart of these so-called “New Avengers?” Is it because Valentina is involved? Also, who is the President at the moment? Do the new President and Sam have a relationship? What’s the beef? Bucky said the conversation didn’t go well which leads me to believe that Sam brought up who Bucky used to be in the mist of fussing about “The New Avengers.” Also, Russo’s, will we get to see a flashback of that conversation in “Doomsday?” I just want to see everything.

3.) Are the Fantastic Four in that rocket or is it just Herbie or is this before their world is destroyed? Is their world destroyed at all? We’ll find out in June.

4.) A friend of mine from an old job brought up a good point. Where is everyone? Wong? Strange? Spider-Man? (although we forget we know him but he still has a suit) Everybody busy? Any don’t give me that, “Wong is Sorcerer Supreme and he’s busy.” Walk and chew gum, Wong!

I love when Marvel gets into their “Inside Out” bag and makes me feel. I almost started to like John Walker. ALMOST. I still don’t like him, but I am a new fan of Bob. Now, what to do with him. Will he be like Hulk and we have to figure out how he can compartmentalize his depression to be a superhero? Find out on the next episode of “DragonBall Z!” LOL
