Do We Need Another MIB?

So, I was aimlessly scrolling through Facebook and I found this…

Naturally, I was skeptical until I watched the trailer all the way through. Before writing this, I went to IMDB to see what this MIB would be about and this is all I could find:

“The Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization.”

Sooooo…back to square one because that told me nothing. So let’s just dissect what we have.

F. Gary Gray is directing this film. I don’t see if there will be an appearance from Agent J (Will Smith) or Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) but if there isn’t one, this movie will be for not. I want to make that known because that’s really what we want.

Here’s what I love. The addition of Tessa Thompson as Agent M. Sidenote: If you remember, Michael Jackson made a cameo in the second movie begging to be Agent M. Also remember, they hung up on him. So the Agent M title is available. Back to the review. Chris Hemsworth’s role in this film almost reminds me of his role in Ghostbusters. I think I’m going to like seeing him and Tessa as a team in this film. Liam Neeson is also in the film and I assume that he will take the place of Zed. Plus, who doesn’t love Liam Neeson and I’m sure we are all ready for a bunch of Taken references.

We’ve had three other Men in Black movies; again, do we need another Men in Black? The answer is a strong no but there is this notion that kids need movies from their own decade in order to relate. Dust off your VHS’ and show them babies the original, but no, people need a whole new movie. I digress.

Let’s be honest here. The only thing new in this film is the location. All other MIB movies have been set in the United States. There’s new agents….ok. Now, we’ve never dealt with a mole in the MIB, that I can recall. The kids get betrayal in their MIB. I am intrigued to see how that plays out. I am also intrigued by Tessa Thompson’s character. In her voiceover during the trailer, she says she had been looking for something for 20 years. Now, I don’t know if that means she was looking for MIB or someone within it but I’m interested enough to probably go see the movie. There also hasn’t been any agents who are women.

My favorite part of this trailer is how the car hides the weapons. Usually, there’s a hidden compartment in the trunk or a setup in the glove compartment. This? Way cooler than that.

Whenever there are new developments, I will be sure to update this post or create a new one because we need answers.
