No good deed tv series

Let’s Talk: Alternate Storyline…?

I tried my best not to give anything away in my review, but here is where there will be spoilers. You have been warned. So, boom, the one real issue I had with this story is that they would always give me some tidbit that I would want more from. An example I will use here is when they reveal that Margo’s real name is really Luann and her brother did not die in a fire. He was burned but not dead. There’s a whole backstory that could have been explored and I would have liked that more than exploring the relationships with Carla, Greg and his momma and Leslie and Sarah. I kept wanting to know more and more about the house, about Margo, and about the Morgans. So, here’s what I propose…

The episode after Paul discovers his brother is not dead and he traps him in the wall we could have done a complete flashback. All we got from the flashback was that there was a room behind the bookshelf and their father seemed to be hard on Mikey more so than Paul. Well, my brain said, “Why is this? Who was their dad? What other memories were made in this house?” Take out Nate because Nate could have been any police officer. Take out the daughter because you added that the family did all of this covering up because they thought it was her who killed her brother. Add more about Margo and her life and the story of that house. We know why it means so much to Lydia, but Paul said he had bad memories in the house. Was it just the murder that was bad? Seems like the childhood bad memories would belong to his brother but Paul is adamant about selling.

And another thing! We did all this covering up and hiding for the daughter and we don’t figure that out until episode seven or so. That’s too long to keep that covered up. Also, you can’t get me to believe that she didn’t hear two people running near the house and didn’t also hear someone else fire their gun. I’d imagine that nosy neighbor would have heard more than one gunshot. There wasn’t a silencer on either gun so that didn’t curl all the way over for me. Sorry, series. You were doing so well!

Although Linda Cardellini did such a good job playing the villain, I felt lost in her motivations. It almost felt like she was doing stuff just to be doing it. Later we learn that she came from a trailer park and apparently, her parents didn’t like her just because but that didn’t tell me anything about why she would want to drain her husband’s bank account, why she would just be holding out for the prenup money, why she wanted in on the sell of the Morgan’s house so bad, or why she would shoot a teenager to keep secrets from her soap opera actor husband. Girl, he’s in a soap opera. Not a Marvel movie! And you live in LA and you fine! You could fine another actor. I doubt the series wanted us just to hate this character and not see any human in her.

Also, if we focused more on the backstory of the big three, it would cut down on the convenience in this series. Leslie just happens to be married to a women who is an OBGYN who is obsessed with safety. Leslie, herself, also happens to be a DA who got her hands on a sealed autopsy that doesn’t seem to have a case attached to it and is the autopsy of a minor. Carla’s OBGYN happens to not be available so Sarah happens to be the person who delivers her baby. They also happen to be talking about the house when Sarah walks in so she just happens to direct them to the app where they can learn more about the son, Jacob’s, murder. It’s all too happenstance for me, and I didn’t care for it. Came together to neat and I got bored.

Tell me what do you all think. Did you want to know more like me or is it fine like it is? Sound off.
